Holiday Decoration Inspiration

So, if it's a dark room like this-this is historic Georgetown row house-, try lots of lights on your tree and use the lights smart to reflect the ornaments' glittering, shining surface. Tuck the lights deep in the tree, so that the electric lines are not shown when it's bright. Hang the color coordinated ornaments throughout the tree, especially around the area you have the lights on with shiny ornaments. Also make sure you have some long drop down ornaments. They make the tree look quite fashionable and in shape.
The mantle garlands are better in heavy decorated. Don't be afraid to use non-traditional color for your holiday decoration. As long as they are coordinated with your wall, picture frame, other fixture on your wall, it looks much better that way. If you are not planning to use the fireplace to set the real fire, it's a great opportunity to create a focal area for your decoration there. Just set few big found objects can create great accent spot for you.
Here I simply drop the garland top to bottom. It's modern and chic but color wise traditional. Decorate just the top with ornaments and ribbons. It draw your eyes vertically and makes the space roomy.
All the consoles, welcoming little space can be decorated holiday theme by simply place a pair of table top cones like these. I took the small styrofoam cones and spray glue the silver glitters on them. I stuck the cones into this silver containers and put artificial poinsettia stems into the rim, finishing them with silver snow flakes on top. Simple but make statement.
Same technique is used on this green cone table tops. Only this is not symetrical. They are designed as a pair, so that each one has green foliage trails to one side.
This Korean Chosun dynasty folk art console is great place to display this copper Korean antique bowl. I simply put various lime green materials around it to decorate it as christmas theme.
